Meet Stephanie…

After graduating from university in California, I worked at a health care center and clinic that served underserved and underprivileged communities of greater Los Angeles. It was there that I grew to understand the practice of integrative and holistic health care. We brought together conventional, traditional, and complementary health practices as well as social services to provide coordinated care for the community. After some time in LA, I moved to Tokyo, Japan, where I eventually found myself in Edward Obaidey’s acupuncture clinic as a patient and became fascinated in acupuncture and Eastern medicine. I returned to California and completed a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which included the study of acupuncture, massage, and Chinese herbs. I soon went back to Japan, where I am privileged to have studied and worked in apprenticeship for seven years under Edward sensei at his busy clinic in Tokyo. While in Japan, I also treated private patients and provided home visits. I am also honored to have studied under Edward sensei’s teacher Masakazu Ikeda throughout the years. Under their guidance, my experience in Japan taught me the true art of acupuncture.

At Ki Point Acupuncture, our treatments are patient-focused; because, unlike Western medicine, acupuncture focuses on the individual and targets one’s entire wellbeing, rather than merely the illness. The World Health Organization even states that “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Thus, I am dedicated to helping my patients reach optimal health by integrating traditional medicine with guidance on nutrition, exercise/movement, and overall wellness that suits each patient’s unique lifestyle and needs. My clinic is not only a place of healing, but one of continuous learning and development for my patients as well as myself.

Education & Training

I am currently a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (formerly the British Acupuncture Association). I received my Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine in the United States from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco, California, where we completed over 3,000 hours of theoretical and clinical training. I am a California board certified acupuncturist and herbalist and hold a national certification in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in the United States. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).

Prior to my seven year apprenticeship in Japan, my clinical experience includes internships at the California Pacific Medical Center Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Center, the Jewish Home for the Aged, and the ACTCM Community Ear Acupuncture Clinic. Additional studies include an international study abroad program at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in Hangzhou, China; certification in Constitutional Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture from Mary Elizabeth Wakefield in Los Angeles, California; certification in Shiatsu massage from Susumu Kimura in Tokyo, Japan; and certification in Tui Na massage from ACTCM.
